Wuxin Minshuku: A Harmonious Blend of Tradition and Modernity

David Pong's Award-Winning Hotel Design Inspired by Bamboo Forests

David Pong's Wuxin Minshuku, an innovative hotel design, draws inspiration from the bamboo forests surrounding the site. This unique project, a blend of traditional and modern styles, has been awarded the prestigious Silver A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award in 2019.

The concept of the design originates from the bamboo forest surrounding the site. When bamboo is cut, it presents a hollow circle, symbolizing modesty and openness. This concept is reflected in the design of the hotel, creating a romantic and leisure atmosphere. From the delightful emerald to the intoxicating sunset, the case arises at the historic moment.

The whole project is composed of six buildings with different styles. Apart from accommodation, catering and meetings, hot springs and other entertainment facilities are available. In terms of architectural design, the collision of stone and wood forms a series of structures, which gracefully integrates modern style with local traditions and presents them in the closest way to rural life.

In the selection of materials, the bamboo resources of Xiaoshan Village provide advantaged construction materials. Bamboo is not only a structural element of architecture, but also an interior decoration element. With a large number of untouched wood and stone, it harmoniously dissolves into the boundless greenness. The project covers a total of 3200 square meters. The green bamboo, clear water, and fresh flower buds all exist to explain leisure, which is also the core of the design of the project.

The corridor is a good solution to the problem of the path through the buildings. The rhythm of light and shadow, bright and darkness gives space flow and breathing breath through the bamboo gaps, enhancing the interaction between people and the surrounding environment. The project started in July 2018 in Conghua and finished in March 2019 in Conghua.

This case located in the beautiful mountains and lake light of Xiaoshan Village, adjacent to Guangdong Energy Storage Hydropower Station, it is a reclusive and quiet dwelling full of artistic flavor and embracing natural scenery. Looking from a distance, with the migration of the perspective, the architecture and landscape will show different dense changes, so that customers can not only capture the panorama of Wuxin Minshuku from some angles, but also feel the hazy beauty in some places.

The exterior boundary of the swimming pool area is made of sinuous bamboo pole exterior wall, with simple modeling and smooth lines. It guarantees a certain privacy of the space, and at the same time, the visual field from the inside to the outside is still very transparent. The architectural appearance of the restaurant is not a traditional square space, but a combination of smooth lines and arcs. Designers choose concrete columns as the foundation, so that the whole building floating off the ground, not only the shape of personality and beauty, but also to achieve moisture-proof effect. The buildings in the hotel room area are arranged in the shape of Chinese character 'Pin' to form a good sense of enclosure, while the stairs spiral around the bamboo tube structure, forming a sense of rhythm.
